About Our Park

Our
Story

Princess Park, located on the shores of Grand Lake in New Brunswick, is a unique and picturesque community with a rich history. This narrow sandbar, measuring less than 300 feet wide in some areas, is bordered by Grand Lake on one side and a quiet cove known as The Keyhole on the other. Many cottages here are elevated on stilts or blocks, a precaution against flooding, as the area is prone to rising water levels during spring freshets
Historical Background
The origins of Princess Park date back to the 1930s. A.D. Taylor purchased land from Robert Clark and constructed the first cottage in the area, later selling it to Dr. Gardiner in 1938. The land was rumored to have been part of the Wiggins Estate, and residents recall Mrs. Garthwaite living in a log home there during the early 20th century
In the mid-20th century, the area became a popular public beach with a canteen operated by the Sproul family. Over time, the community evolved into a vibrant lakeside neighborhood, with both seasonal and year-round residents. Today, much of the land remains in the Sproul family name, though some Crown land exists at the southern end of the sandbar
Modern-Day Princess Park
In April 2025, the Municipality of Grand Lake proudly acquired Princess Park Campground, transforming it into a cherished destination for both locals and visitors. Today, Princess Park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, family-friendly activities, and a strong sense of community.
Stretching across more than 4,000 feet of beautiful beachfront, the campground features playgrounds, picnic areas, and ample opportunities for relaxation and recreation. On-site amenities include a canteen, public fire pits, clean washrooms, and coin-operated showers. On weekends, visitors can enjoy charming wagon rides, making it a favorite getaway for campers and day-trippers alike.
Princess Park is more than just a campground — it’s a reflection of the Grand Lake community's welcoming spirit. Whether you're enjoying sandy beaches, boating on the lake, casting a line for a fresh catch, or gathering around a lakeside bonfire, the park offers something for everyone.
Rich with local history, the park preserves its heritage through historic architecture and the shared stories of longtime residents. It’s this mix of scenic beauty and heartfelt tradition that gives Princess Park its unique charm.
